It must be frustrating for evolutionists to look back over thousands of years of documented history, see mankind’s folly being repeated from generation to generation and wonder why homo sapiens aren’t adapting more intelligently to their surroundings. We might be loftier on average than our ancestors of a few hundred years ago, but when it comes to moral uprightness we certainly cannot claim to stand any taller than our forebears, quite the contrary . Despite the atrocities committed by the Vikings, Romans and other earlier civilisations, it would seem that the 20th Century has yielded up more casualties through war and political purges than throughout the course of the entire previous millennia. The truth is, that overall, man’s behaviour doesn’t evolve in a positive fashion, but the opposite is true – mankind naturally devolves from bad to worse as the knowledge of evil increases, and with it, new inventions of evil are forged in the heart of wicked mankind. Take for instance abortion. In the middle of the last century the surgical technique of abortion was perfected to safeguard life where anti-natal complications had developed and threatened the health of the mother. The procedure allowed for the removal of inviable babies from their mother’s womb with minimal risk to the life of the woman. During the 1960’s about 40 women each year were dying from botched, back-street abortions, In 1967 the British Parliament legalised on-demand abortion, requiring that surgeons who had sworn the Hippocratic Oath, (which includes the statement – “I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy,“) carry out the procedure. Since that time, more than seven million babies in Britain have had their earthly existence terminated before they ever had the opportunity to to draw one breath of air. Even the architect of the Abortion Act, Lord David Steel admits that he could never have envisaged so many abortions would be carried out when he championed his iniquitous Private Member’s Bill 45 years ago. How foolish and naive Lord steel sounds, surely he must have had an inkling that once that particular genie was out of the bottle, it wasn’t going back in anytime soon. A couple of evenings ago I was sharing a time of fellowship with a friend and fellow believer in Jesus Christ, this sister in the Lord (and her husband) have made the decision to home-school their child using the material developed by Accelerated Christian Europe. From what I have seen of the material it is excellent, in that it allows children to learn at the best rate for them, but also because of the Christian ethos of the creators protects the child from being subjected to inappropriate sexually explicit material bizarrely deemed necessary for children’s development by the UK’s Department for Education. Tragically the present government is pursuing a policy of forcing state schools to teach material to children which results in their innocence being stolen from them where twenty years such actions would probably have been deemed to be child abuse and led to the teachers being criminally charged. As I looked at some of the materials which will be covered during my friend’s son’s education during the next 12 months, my first thoughts where how exceptionally blessed this young man is to receive such an education, but equally, how cursed and disadvantaged children in mainstream education are in Britain today. In the same way that the parents have chosen to educate their son to comprehend the world through the prism of Christian understanding, I sincerely hope and pray that the young man in question will grasp the opportunity such a privilege affords with every fibre of his being. If you are rightly and deeply concerned about what is happening within the state school system in Britain, you may also wish to consider alternatives – this is one I can heartily recommend http://www.christian-education.org/ (In case you are wondering, I have no affiliation to this organisation apart from a shared desire to see our children given a good start in life) In the words of the writer of Proverbs, “Wisdom has built her house, she have hewn out her seven pillars” (Proverbs 9:1).
